Feedback on the Lenovo ThinkPad P1 2nd Gen

this system, Lenovo ThinkPad P1 2nd Gen [1][2][3], was not certified with 20.04.

It's certified with 18.04 pre-installed Ubuntu, as noted in the certification page:
* The system is available in some regions with a special image of Ubuntu pre-installed by the manufacturer. It takes advantage of the hardware features for this system and may include additional software. You should check when buying the system whether this is an option.
* Standard images of Ubuntu may not work at all on the system or may not work well, though Canonical and computer manufacturers will try to certify the system with future standard releases of Ubuntu.

Thanks for the clarification. Some questions:

1. Is there a 20.04 special image that is certified which I can download? 20.04 is LTS, after all.
2. Where can I download the 18.04 special image from?
3. Is it then safe to say that Lenovo's premier, most expensive workstation laptops (P1 Gen2/Gen3) do not work well with Lenovo's premier docking station (Thunderbolt 3 Workstation Dock Gen 2) and the premier engineering (development, ML) OS (Linux, Ubuntu) LTS version? That Ubuntu 20.04 LTS may not work well or may not work at all with this combination?

Hello Alon,

To your questions:
For now there is no special OEM image for 20.04 on this platform.
This system was certified with the 4.15 OEM kernel on 18.04, for this 18.04 OEM image you will need to contact Lenovo.

And unfortunately yes, there is no guarante that a certified (Pre-Installed only) system could work smoothly without any issue on 20.04 LTS, we are aiming to close the gap between the generic kernel and these OEM kernels.
If you're using Focal 20.04, you can give Focal OEM 5.10 kernel a try, just install the linux-oem-20.04-edge package and reboot.

Please file a bug with "ubuntu-bug linux" if anything is not working.
