Mac Sonoma 14.4.1 can not generate events

Asked by Miguel Angel Soto Alcaraz

We are trying to generate very simple events (e- e+ > mu+ mu-). Not long ago there was not any issue, but then there was an Mac OS update, and MG5 is no longer able to generate events. The error that shows up is the following:

"""

Have tried already installing and updating xcode-select, but that did not fixed the issue.
We are assuming that it is only related to the Mac software update, but that is beyond our computer abilities.

We have tried versions 3.5.4, 3.5.3, and 3.2.0 but unsuccesfully.

Hope we can get any help soon for this bug.

Hi,

I can confirm that it is possible to have it installed/running on macos 14.X (not sure which one I have tested).
Since I have my desktop with such OS and since in February, couple of student in a school were also running that OS.

Your error message seems to indicate that some tools is still thinking that this is macos 13.x.
Since you have already updated xcode tools, then the issue might be with gfortran and/or ld.

Cheers,

Olivier

Hi.

How can I solve this then? Do I need to reinstall gfortran or that ld?, or is there some update command that I can run in order to have all the tools into the 14 verision?

Thanks

Well this depend so much on how you installed gfortran/ld/... that I would not try to suggest you to run command for a system where I have no clue of the consequence.
My only suggestion would be to check online (i.e. on bing) the error that you quote above and check in the propose answer which one correspond the most to the installation method that you use and try (after backuping your system) one of the proposed solution.

Cheers,

Olivier
