using HPLIP on Linux Mint 21.3 with Oficejet Pro 7740

Can anyone help me get my "Officejet Pro 7740" working from Mint 21.3 Cinnamon?

After my update from Mint 21.2 to 21.3 I started with trouble using my HP Officejet Pro 7740 hhh Format All-in-One.
In short it seems that the printer will enter idle-sleep or idle-power-off but the workstation is not able to reconnect to the printer without a power-off power-on and workstation reboot. This suggested a driver problem in my mind, but I'm not a guru or wizard so I came here with questions.

The Mint repository has HPLIP v3.21.12 but the current HPLIP is v3.23.12. When I tried to build the latest edition, there was a message saying that Mint 21.3 is not supported. (grin) I tried anyway and there was a list of dependencies that could not be met from the Mint repositories.

Linux Mint 21.3 is based on Ubuntu 22.04
